The Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in Uganda has advised its congregations across the country to adjust their Sabbath worship start time on July 25, 2026, to 10:30 am.
The directive was communicated in an official statement issued on July 24, 2026, by Pr. Kajoba Samuel, President of the Uganda Union Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
The temporary timing adjustment follows a government directive concerning National Cleaning Day.
Church leadership explained that the shift is intended to provide room for ongoing engagements with government authorities to reach a mutually acceptable resolution that honors both national interests and constitutional freedom of worship, while ensuring believers continue to assemble.
Pr. Kajoba appealed to church members to remain calm, prayerful, and steadfast, emphasising the sanctity of the biblical Sabbath from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday.
To demonstrate good citizenship and respect for lawful authority without compromising their faith, Adventists were encouraged to participate in community cleaning activities on Sunday instead.
Church leaders expressed optimism that the ongoing discussions with the government will yield a favorable outcome ahead of future National Cleaning Days.
