With his recent election as the President of the Central Uganda Conference (CUC), Pastor David Simwogerere steps into one of the most influential roles in the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Uganda.
His profile is not just that of a traditional clergyman, but of a strategic builder-shepherd who balances the spiritual needs of a massive congregation with the technical demands of institutional growth.
The foundations of a leader
Born on January 23, 1970, Simwogerere’s early life was marked by a commitment to practical excellence. Long before he was a fixture behind the pulpit, he was a student of electrical installation and engineering.
This background, rooted in his education at Masooli Primary and Mengo Senior School, is often cited as the source of his quiet diligence and systematic approach to problem-solving.
When he transitioned to ministry, he pursued a rigorous academic path at Bugema University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Theology (Spiritual Foundation) and a Master’s in Counselling Psychology (Human Care Focus).
A proven architect of growth
Simwogerere’s career is defined by firsts and fixes. As the pioneer President of the North Buganda Field (NBF), he established a blueprint for self-reliance.
Under his leadership, the field raised over Shs160 million in just six months, a feat praised by church leadership as a model of project maturity.
His legacy in North Buganda includes:
- Healthcare: Advancing the development of Nakyewa Adventist Hospital.
- Empowerment: Founding the Migeera Women Center of Influence, which integrates skills training with primary education.
- Infrastructure: Overseeing the construction of numerous churches and visibility projects across Luwero, Nakaseke, and Nakasongola.
The institution man
Beyond pastoral care, Simwogerere is a trusted governor of the Church’s financial and educational pillars.
He has served as a Council Member of Bugema University and the Chairperson of the SDA Church Uganda Union Workers Savings SACCO, demonstrating a unique ability to manage both souls and systems.
His governance footprint also includes:
- Board Chairperson: Katikamu, Kaloke Christian, and Nakaseke SDA Secondary Schools.
- Strategic Boards: Former member of the Bible Society of Uganda and Merryland High School.
